Previous Programs

Over the years Circus Oz has delivered community workshops to thousands of people around the country. Some of our more recent programs include:

Super Hero Academy

The Good Guys Super Hero Academy travelled around Australia throughout 2015, 2016 and 2017 with the aim of teaching positive lessons and character-building skills to children that they could adopt in their everyday lives and pass onto their peers.

The Good Guys and Circus Oz created an experience that was more than your average workshop. By using circus, primary school aged children had the opportunity to discover their inner super hero in a safe, friendly and non-competitive environment.

Children learnt new skills such as mini-tramp and tumbling, acro-balance and human pyramids, as well as having a go at conquering the trapeze and aerial ring – like a true super hero!

At the end of the free workshops, each child took home a super hero goodie bag that included a cape, mask and participation certificate, ensuring they were well equipped to continue their super hero experience.

Fun Run

Fun Run was a joyful community spectacle that pushed one man to the limits of his endurance. The Arts Centre Melbourne, in association with Circus Oz and VicHealth presented a remarkable free event in early 2017 that married performance, sport and community.

The work of Melbourne-based company All the Queens Men, Fun Run was an homage to the Greek messenger Pheidippides who was sent to Athens to announce the Persian’s defeat in the battle of Marathon. Our fearless hero ran a grueling 42 km on a treadmill live on stage, supported by a booming soundtrack, hundreds of performers and participants drawn from a multitude of Melbourne communities, a silky-voiced MC and special guests.

Audience members were invited to participate by attending public workshops before the event to learn the dance moves for Flash Mobs that happened hourly throughout the performance.

Fun Run was the fourth project produced by Arts Centre Melbourne as part of the Betty Amsden Participation Program and was made possible by the vision and exceptional generosity of the late Miss Betty Amsden AO.
