First Gig With Circus Oz: Wentworth Park, 1988

In 1985 Anni joined a street theatre company called Death Defying Theatre and began on a performance path trod by acrobats and activists, through traditional agit-prop and feminist street theatre to stages all over the world. She joined Circus Oz in 1987 and has continued the relationship ever since, with two four-year performing stints a decade apart, interwoven with lots of time spent training, administering, assisting, directing and operating. She is currently Acting General Manager while Linda is on long service leave, a decade after the last time she Acted when Linda had Louis.

As one of our multi-skilled performers, Antonella has been a part of our show as an acrobat, aerialist and Board member. She's also a founder of the Vulcana Women's Circus and founding member of Rock 'n' Roll Circus. Now she works in our artistic department.

Dani Venn is a recent Media graduate from RMIT whose experiences range from teaching English in Vietnam, directing a documentary in Sri Lanka and being an intern with International Women's Development Agency. Dani is very happy that her first gig in the 'Real World' is with Circus Oz and has plans to become a hula-hooper.

Eli began performing when she was six at Cirkidz, Adelaide's youth circus where she stayed for 12 years. After completing school she studied architecture for one year. Realising it was not her calling she moved to Melbourne and completed a Bachelor of Circus Arts at National Institutes of Circus Arts (NICA). Eli is co-creator and performer in OzStar Airlines, a comedy duo who have toured for the last four years to 15 countries at venues such as the London National Theatre.

Flip is a born and bred bush baby from Albury, were she began her circus career with the Flying Fruit Circus. She is a multi-skilled acrobat, tumbler, circus trainer, performer, musician, skater and break-dancer. Flip has been fortunate to have many varied experiences, from performing on Broadway, New York, to competing in extreme sports.

First Gig With Circus Oz: Italy 2008

Joe has been level balancing sounds for over 18 years. He has worked extensively in circus, cabaret, dance, musical comedy and theatre circles as well as touring with many of the worlds best traditional folk bands. He is a regular on Australia's folk festival circuit and has played bouzouki with traditional Irish group 'Trouble in the Kitchen' since 1997.

Lesley's career includes working as a financial administrator for a community employment program, running her own design and screen-printing business, and coordinating media workshops for young people. She's worked with the Melbourne Fringe Festival and has even sold cheese.

Luke began his circus career at the age of 12 when he joined the Flying Fruit Circus. Since then he has gallivanted around the world including performing on Broadway, New York. Luke decided to hone his skills by completing the bachelor of Circus Arts at National Institute of Circus Arts, Melbourne. Since then he has performed in various Australian festivals and circuses.

Marko loves the potential that a light bulb yields. In Germany he spent his adolescence rigging par cans for rock'n'roll. Post his arrival in Australia and long years at the VCA, he's become far more solemn and philosophical about his work. He has worked with Australian companies ranging from drama via contemporary dance, physical theatre to circus and beyond.

Mel is the Circus Oz strong-woman, acrobat, aerialist, german wheel artist and tap dancer. After performing in Western Australia Theatre Company's production of Barnum she discovered her passion for Circus. In 1998 Mel decided to take her career as a circus performer seriously and auditioned for Circus Oz. She got the job and in 1999 joined the company. After taking a year off, Mel has returned to Circus Oz. She is wetting her pants to be back!

Baxter's been working in circus for about eighteen years, including the National Circus Festival, Raradada, Circus Monoxide and a host of others.

First Gig With Circus Oz: New York 1997

Mike was a founding member of Circus Monoxide, but started his relationship with Circus Oz doing work experience in 1992. He spent most of the 90's working in and around the innovative and lateral Theatre/Media course at Charles Sturt University in Bathurst. He was a founding member of the Banana Brothers street trio, and has worked as a shearing roustabout, pastry cook, parade designer, associate lecturer and half-wit.

Performing since age eleven, Paul has toured the world performing in theatre, circus, dance and puppetry. Paul is a co-creator of extreme circus company KRONIK, which blends the traditional format of circus with hip-hop beats, mc'ing and skate culture. Paul is a graduate from the National Institute of Circus Arts.

A seasoned traveller, Rebecca spent ten years working with new media and telecommunications in Australia, Mexico and Colombia before starting with Circus Oz. She is now dedicated to finding exotic places for Circus Oz to visit and new audiences to entertain and inspire.

Rockie began her performance career at age four with a pair of ballet shoes and a poodle costume. After completing a zoological science degree, Rockie began exploring the realm of circus and quickly moved to performing freelance. A graduate of the National Institute of Circus Arts, Rockie has worked as a core ensemble member of Circa in Brisbane and performed at festivals throughout Australia and in Shanghai.

Suzi has worked as a mechanist, bicycle courier, arts administrator, puppeteer and freelance writer. She joined Circus Oz by accident after a tour of duty with Snuff Puppets and The Australian Ballet, and has quickly found her niche as a multi-tasking logistics whiz.

Tim is a founding member of Circus Oz, after being founding member of New Circus. He's been a clown and ringmaster with Circus Royale, a tent hand and elephant boy with Ashton's Circus and he's walked on a high wire from the top of the Adelaide Festival Centre across the Torrens River.

Zillah has worked as a stage manager, production manager, venue manager and technical manager in children's theatre, festivals, cabaret, musicals and comedy. She decided it was time to put all that together and join the circus!
