EOIs open for Sidesault at The Melba 2018
21st March 2018
Expressions of Interest are now open for the second Sidesault at The Melba, a festival of innovative and experimental circus presented by Circus Oz and supported by The City of Yarra.
Presented within the mirrored splendour of The Melba Spiegeltent at the Circus Oz Homebase, Sidesault at The Melba provides a platform for circus companies to present innovative circus that explores the possibilities and pushes the boundaries of contemporary circus as an artform.
The festival had its inaugural year in 2017 with great success for both the festival itself and individual artists. The companies involved have continued to develop their performances, with many of them receiving great reviews, touring their shows or taking on new projects after presenting at Sidesault at The Melba.
- Party Ghost was listed by Richard Watts in his Arts Hub top ten shows of 2017, and went on to success at Perth Fringe, with more seasons planned.
- Casting Off has been to Perth Fringe and is in planning for further tours. Theatrepress described the work, and the festival, as “pushing art into new places”.
- Time In Space Circus have just premiered a new show in Adelaide Fringe, which Richard Watts has also has described on Arts Hub as his highlight of the 2018 Fringe. He described their work as “intent on bringing a fresh aesthetic to the circus arts while also deconstructing the familiar flow of tricks and routines”.
In 2018, we are looking for the next generation of circus shows to surprise, challenge and inspire. More information on Sidesault at The Melba and how to apply can be found in the information pack here. Expression of interest must be received by Friday 27 April.
