Radical Rituals Disco meets divinity. Cabaret meets cult.

Dare to surrender to desire? Find cathartic release? Joyous and rebellious, this is a queer punk cabaret of the divine kind. Join glamdrogynous drag deity Glitterfist as they spread the gospel of love, rage, and filth alongside a spectacular line-up of gender-bending artists. Worship at sacred installations. Feast upon radical rituals of drag, burlesque and performance art celebrating our innate fabulousness.

We find our identities off the beaten path. We desire in ways erased from sex ed. We grieve for generations. We celebrate our resilience. We dance in the streets until dawn.

This is our place of worship. And we build it ourselves.

Last Midsumma Festival, 'Glitterfist: Libertine' left audiences feeling empowered; Radical Rituals will leave you feeling transformed.

Radical Rituals is written and directed by Bree Zilla, the genderqueer performance art shapeshifter behind Glitterfist and Ziggy Discoballs. Bree was the creator and co-producer of successful cult cabaret 'Glitterfist: Libertine' for Midsumma Festival in 2018. They have spread gender-bending smut and glitter across numerous shows, including Taylor Mac's 24-Decade History of Popular Music, Gaytimes Festival, Australian Burlesque Festival, Oz Kink Fest, MAX FREAK, and Honcho Disko.

Sarah X Spandex is an independent Melbourne producer powerhouse co-producing Radical Rituals. Sarah discovered her love for producing in 2016 with her successful debut production Planet of the Kings for Melbourne Fringe, of which she was also a performer and writer. In 2017 she co-produced the Midsumma spectacle 'Glitterfist: Libertine' which sold out multiple shows in its first season. Sarah also currently produces Kong's Kings and Twink Ascending.

Rebel Glam rock. Circus. Bowie.

Rebel is a live circus rock tribute to the original rebel, David Bowie. Stage dive into the mosh pit and enjoy a night of ear shattering live music, glittering glam rock and phenomenal acrobatics, breathtaking aerials and spectacular heart stopping sideshow. Live music combined with circus and comedy brings to life an incredible body of work that spanned over 50 years, and an aesthetic that broke ground and inspired generations.

Rebel has been inspired by the words of Bowie; "I want to tart rock up. I don't want to climb out of my fantasies in order to go up on stage—I want to take them on stage with me." Rebel is your Bowie fantasies realised - a live band, breathtaking circus, spectacular rock and roll sideshow. Rebel is much more than a tribute show, with aesthetics and theatricality inspired Bowie and fed into a live rock and roll circus extravaganza.

Headlined by the incredible multi-award winning Stewart Reeve, and featuring a rockstar band of artists from across artistic genres and co-created by Highwire Entertainment, the production house behind Rouge, Papillon and Pop Party Throwdown among others, Rebel is a non-stop circus rock and roll party.

Midsumma Festival 2019 at The Melba & Beyond: Queer Lady Magician

VENUE: THE STUDIO

Revisiting a childhood love of stage magic with a strong sense of social justice - and a severe case of impostor syndrome.

Can an overly honest person be a good magician?

If you failed at something once should you never try again? And what's with all these straight White men in Orientalist drag?

Queer Lady Magician tells the story of Creatrix Tiara's first love of stage magic, losing the love from failure, and revisiting her childhood passion as an adult. In the process of doing so, she is forced to confront her demons: impostor syndrome, fear of failure, trauma from emotional abuse.

Interwoven with autobiographical storytelling are acts that politicize stage magic to question norms about magic and society: assumptions about people's identities based on their appearance, gender stereotypes of (male) Magician and (female) Assistant, cultural appropriation in magic, and much more. Serious social and personal issues are tackled with humour, silliness, saltiness, and heartfelt sincerity.

Through this show, Creatrix Tiara learns what it means to be a Queer Lady Magician, eventually taking ownership of an artform that has traditionally been dominated by straight cis able-bodied White men and making it queer, feminist, decolonial - by battling internalised and externalised oppression.

MA15+ (young people allowed with adult supervision)

Violence | Discussions of emotional abuse, bigotry (racism, xenophobia, misogyny, transphobia) | Simulated gun violence | Moderate coarse language Light audience participation, drinks (both optional)

Old school Hollywood glamour as you've never seen it before.

Productions Hot off her world tour, CAZELEON the cabaret chameleon is ready for her close up this Midsumma Festival.

With her memoirs played out through cinematic evolution this cabaret/movie mash-up is a "drag show" like none other. SPINE TINGLING VOCALS, MESMERISING MOMENTS, drama, mystery, action, horror – all in a heel and a lash; an audio and visual feast exploring identity and the liberation that comes in breaking down social constructs.

Featuring songs from Shirley Bassey to Duke Dumont, this theatrical cabaret turns the lens on gender and binary constructs as well as the exploitation of women in Hollywood. In a fabulous way.

Directed by: Grace Taylor

"Cazeleon's pitch-perfect voice mixed with an emotionally stirring performance creates a piece that seamlessly blends theatre and drag." ★★★★ – The List

"Cabaret theatre that presents a fiction that screams of the lived experiences of the performer" ★★★★ – Broadway Baby

"Cazeleon's voice is incredible! There is the full voice of a soprano, with absolutely no falsetto, then all of a sudden this manly tenor emerges" ★★★★★ – GLAM Adelaide

On the journey he activates his kundalini, gets abducted by 6th dimensional clowns, becomes Jesus Christ, and discovers a secret that human beings were never meant to know.

This one man circus infuses storytelling with clowning, puppetry and dance to take their audience on a psychedelic sky dive, through their arsehole, to lose their mind. Buy the ticket. Take the ride. Meet you on the other side. Everybody has to die.
